Asma Sharkawy is a post-doctoral researcher at CBQF working on the development of innovative biodegradable packaging. She received her PhD degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering in 2021 from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto. Before her PhD, Asma obtained her MSc degree in Chemistry from the American University in Cairo, and her BSc degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Cairo University. Her PhD thesis focused on the development of novel clean-label Pickering emulsions stabilized with bio-polymeric particles for the encapsulation and delivery of bioactive agents. Her research work involved interdisciplinary research areas, such as the engineering of biopolymeric dispersions, interfaces and colloids, food and sustainable cosmetic applications, drug encapsulation and delivery, as well as functional textiles.
