Joana F. Fangueiro is a pharmaceutic with a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Technology from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra, Portugal (2016). Joana is a Junior Researcher at Alchemy at Biotechnology School of the Portuguese Catholic University (ESB-UCP)/Amyris joint-collaboration project, working on the economic valorization of Amyris’ industrial fermentation coproducts/residues, aiming at developing innovative products for cosmetic, food, animal feed, agricultural, and pharmaceutical applications.
Her main research experience is focused on biotechnology, namely in the development, characterization and functionalization of nanosystems for biomedical, cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications. During her career, she worked in the field of biomaterials gaining experience in their process and characterization for application drug delivery (oral, dermal and ocular) and regenerative medicine; cell culture techniques and animal studies (FELASA Cat. B certified by DGAV).

Recently, she was also R&D manager of a cosmetic and fragrance company in Portugal, Braga being responsible for the formulation, stability and security assessment of cosmetics and also supervision of the control quality system.  She has also experience in supervising young researchers (master and pH students) in the academic and industry. She is reviewer of several recognized journals in the field of nanomedicine and pharmaceutical technology.
