PrintJoana Fortuna earned her degree in Bioengineering from the Faculty of Biotechnology at the Portuguese Catholic University in 2021. Currently, she is in the final year of her master's in Biomedical Engineering in the same institution. Part of her master's program, Joana is engaged in a curricular internship at Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Santo António under the guidance of Nurse Coordinator Rosário Caetano Pereira and Professors Ana Leite Oliveira and Viviana Ribeiro. She is researching on the application of Hypothermic Oxygenated Perfusion (HOPE) to the liver, using the perfusion equipment VitaSmartTM from company Bridge to Life. During this period, Joana is collaboratingwith Dr Janina Eden at the University Hospital Zürich, Switzerland, to investigate organ viability post-HOPE.
