Some metals in the environment are of great concern due to their potential toxicity, persistence, and non-degradability. Hence, it is of vital importance to monitor the presence of these metals in a variety of dynamic water bodies. The current established methodologies, for water analysis, rely on moving the samples to the laboratory and enroll in complex wet sample chemistry processes before analytes detection. This clearly affects the possibility to achieve the exact concentration of total metal ions content as well as aiming for speciation. The Aqua_Smart project (FCT funded project ref. 2022.08713.PTDC) is devoted to address the conventional water sampling preparation and analysis limitations by devising new low-cost and reusable smart sampling procedures, and miniaturized flow-based monitoring.
