21st International Consciousness Reframed Conference (CFP 2019)

About the Conference Hosts

  • CITAR (Research Center for Science and Technology of the Arts)  is part  of the School of Arts from Universidade Católica Portuguesa - Porto and is committed to the development of artistic research informed by practices and concepts inscribed in human-driven impulses of our postdigital era, the challenges and possibilities of the digital arts and humanities, in tandem with the complexity of analogue art forms and technologies. Pressing issues in the digital and traditional arts and humanities have stimulated our commitment to inquiries and goals articulated in four focus-based areas: Sound and Music, New Media Art, Cinema and Cinematic Art, and Heritage and Conservation-Restoration.
  • The Planetary Collegium is an international research platform that promotes the integration of art, science, technology, and consciousness  research, under the rubric of technoetic arts. It is currently based in Plymouth University. The Collegium's Hub is the Centre for Advanced  Inquiry in Integrative Arts (CAiiA), and it has had nodes in Zurich, Milan, Lucerne, Trento, Kefalonia, and currently in Shanghai. The founding President is Professor Roy Ascott.

 

The city of Porto

Setting:
Porto, also known, in English, as Oporto, is the second-largest city in Portugal.
Located along the Douro river estuary in Northern Portugal, Porto was proclaimed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO (1996).
In 2012, 2014 and 2017, Porto was elected The Best European Destination by the Best European Destinations Agency.

A selection of accommodations will be secured at available hotels located around the conference venue (tba)

 

Transportation
Porto is easy to reach by land or air.

There are direct and non-direct flights to Porto from anywhere in the world. The airport serving the city (OPO) is the International Airport Francisco Sá Carneiro, located about 11 km north of the city centre. The main Portuguese airline company is TAP Portugal, which serves numerous destinations. In addition, there are a growing number of international airlines flying to Porto, many of which are low cost companies.

BUS from the airport - lines 601 and 602 take you from the airport to Cordoaria, located in downtown Porto. On Board Tickets cost 1,90€.

METRO from the airport - line E (violet) takes you to Trindade, located in downtown Porto. You will need to buy a Andante charged with a Z4 ticket, which costs around 2€.

You can also choose to go to Porto by TAXI. The approximate rate for a trip from the Airport to the City is 20€.

You can also travel to Porto by train. CP, the Portuguese Railway Company, has regular international links. The city of Porto is served by two main stations: Campanhã Station (for international journeys, but also for journeys to Lisbon, Douro and Minho); and S. Bento Station (for urban and regional connections and connections to Galicia).
