Laboratories

Since 1994, R&D activities at ESB/CBQF have been mainly carried out in a modern building, which also includes Food Technology, Food Quality and Food Packaging Accredited Laboratories and Pilot Plants. The CBQF/ESB uses a total area of 2.382 m2 - which includes 12 offices for faculty and post-graduate students, and 10 laboratories (Analytical Chemistry, Wine Production, Milk&Dairy Products, Food Bioprocess Technology, Food Microbiology, Post-Harvest, Environmental Bioprocess Technology, Environmental Microbiology, Plant Biotechnology, and Environmental Studies). The centre has general support facilities, viz. network of compressed air, pure analytical gases, and burning propane; electrical power generator; and deionized water storage and distribution; intranet and Wi-Fi.

Equipment

Since the space available would not permit listing of all equipment existing and operating at CBQF/ESB, a few selected major pieces are listed below:

Several different types and sizes of fermentors; Centrifuges; Several different gas and liquid chromatographers; LC-MS; GC-MS; Protein sequencing system; Scanning electronic microscope (SEM) + X Rays System; Diverse spectrophotometers; Laminar flow chambers; Several electrophoresis unities; PCR; Multiple-parameter Fourier transform Infrared Analyser; Water activity meter; Micro-differential scanning calorimeter; Multipurpose automatic flow analyser.
