4th edition of the Biotechnology Innovation Forum: Think Big in Biotechnology

We would like to invite you to the 4th edition of the Biotechnology Innovation Forum: Think Big in Biotechnology. This year the event will be held online under the theme “Accelerating bio-innovation, now!” that highlights the need for setting the stage for bio-based innovations. Join us Online, on November 12th, between 9:15am and 1pm.

The 4th edition will host for the 2nd edition of the Amyris Innovation BIG Impact Award, an Innovation Contest in Biotechnology promoted by the Católica Porto Alumni Biotecnologia, in partnership with the School of Biotechnology of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, and Amyris Inc, as its main sponsor. The Competition is based on the promotion of Biotechnology innovation as a key driver for economic development and it aims at promoting new processes, technologies, or services that are both marketable and sustainable, with BIG positive and measurable impacts on Society.

“Accelerating bio-innovation” and “Discussing the state-of-the-art in biotech innovation” are the topics of the two roundtables that will gather experts like: Delfim Ferreira, Luís Garrido, Maria João Maia, Sérgio Silva, Benedita Chaves, John Melo  e José Fernando Pinto dos Santos. The agenda has also a moment “Amyris Innovation BIG Impact Award Pitches”, followed by the announcement of the winners of the award.

MicroSummit 2022

MicroSummit 2022 is a pioneering initiative of the Portuguese Society of Microbiology aiming at bridging academia and the business sectors, therefore creating opportunities for strengthening knowledge transfer, co-creation and employment of microbiologists.

The event is designed for all microbiologists willing to use their knowledge and capabilities to aid and support microbiology companies, generate economic value and promote (self)-employment.

This one-day event includes two thematic symposia, one dedicated to entrepreneurship and the other to academia-company partnerships. Important players in the field will share their visions and experience. Entrepreneurs will be challenged to present their innovative ideas.

Vasco Alves é um músico que procura a materialidade do som e a natureza dos fenómenos acústicos através da utilização de processos eletrónicos e acústicos instáveis. A construção das suas peças assenta fortemente na utilização de técnicas de síntese e amplificação, tácticas materiais que sustentam pontos de diálogo entre lógicas computacionais e ferramentas físicas tais como a gaita-de-fole ou instrumentos de sopro personalizados. Para além do seu trabalho em nome individual, Vasco Alves é membro dos VA AA LAR e dos OndaXoque, para além de ser gaiteiro de bancada nos jogos do Clube de Futebol "Os Belenenses", do qual é fervoroso adepto.

Para o concerto do dia 3 de Novembro, primeiro da temporada 22/23 do programa EA DASHED CONCERTS, Vasco Alves apresenta na Escola das Artes – UCP quatro peças/estudos que resultam de um corpo de trabalho em constante evolução e que exploram as colisões entre a essência acústica do seu instrumento de eleição e pequenas composições sintéticas construídas digitalmente.

Com a gaita-de-fole, a abordagem centra-se na perturbação do fluxo de ar, de modo a explorar os limites físicos do instrumento e a relação entre as suas qualidades acústicas e sons gerados eletronicamente - ou mesmo por outros instrumentos -, procurando uma experiência musica.

Promovidos e organizados pela Escola das Artes – UCP, os EA DASHED CONCERTS são uma plataforma concebida com o intuito de estender o programa pedagógico, investigativo e artístico da escola para os domínios da performance, música exploratória e sound art. Os concertos de curta duração, 15 a 20 minutos, disponibilizados posteriormente no canal de YouTube da Escola das Artes, configuram assim um espaço disruptivo e intimista de escuta e partilha que visa promover linhas de diálogo entre a comunidade académica e o tecido cultural envolvente. Nesse sentido, o programa, que conta com iterações mensais ao longo de todo o ano lectivo, caracteriza-se pela sua permeabilidade, intensidade e espontaneidade.

A Aliança Estratégica de Universidades Católicas de Investigação (SACRU), da qual a UCP é membro fundador, e a Organização das Nações Unidas para a Alimentação e Agricultura (FAO) assinam no dia 27 de outubro, pelas 13h00, uma Carta de Intenções.

O evento irá proporcionar uma visão geral de como as organizações vão colaborar para desenvolver competências nas áreas de segurança alimentar, nutrição e sistemas alimentares sustentáveis e resilientes a nível nacional e regional através da melhoria da troca de conhecimentos e investigação, inovação, partilha de dados e disseminação; e para aumentar a sensibilização e a propriedade de boas políticas e práticas em sistemas agro-alimentares que conduzam a um progresso rumo aos Objectivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável.

A cerimónia contará com as intervenções de Pier Sandro Cocconcelli, Vice-Reitor da Università del Sacro Cuore (SACRO CUORE), sobre "Food Safety: emerging risks in the One Health perspective", e de Junxia Song, Senior One Health Officer e Líder da FAO para a AMR, sobre "Promoting One Health to enhance food production and address AMR".

Maria Helena Semedo, Diretora-Geral Adjunta da FAO e Franco Anelli, Reitor da SACRO CUORE e Vice-Presidente da SACRU, assinarão a Carta de Intenções em representação das instituições. Maurizio Martina, Diretor-Geral Assistente da FAO e Bruno Archi, Representante Permanente da Itália junto da FAO, também marcarão presença.

CALL FOR PAPER/EXTENDED ABSTRACTS

PAPER/EXTENDED ABSTRACTS SUBMISSION PROCEDURE: Authors are requested to electronically submit a full paper or an extended abstract. Papers/extended abstracts must be in English and clearly define the objectives, methodology, findings and significance of the investigation or study, and should clearly identify the names and affiliation of all authors. To submit the paper/extended abstract in pdf use the following form (HERE). The deadline for submission is November 1st, 2022. The authors of accepted papers will be notified by November 8, 2022.

After a network lunch and before the keynote speech, participants are invited to attend case studies presentations by INSURE's business partners.
