We are proud to present the Affect, Personality and the Embodied Brain “APE2020” online conference from 23rd to 25th September - jointly hosted through the APE Research Group at Nottingham Trent University (United Kingdom) and HNL group from Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Portugal), around our understanding of the interaction between the mind and body.
This join effort emerged through our ongoing collaborations and representation at the international APE network. It showcases our strong partnership and commitment, and acts as ‘a consolidating agent’ for our joint ventures in the future. Accommodation: We suggest that you contact Stud@home (a partner company that will help you find the best accommodation option in Porto) by email to: office@studathome.com.
If Stud @ home's options do not meet your needs, we’d suggest that you consult other accommodation options listed in the attached document.
Visas: Students from non-EU countries need to obtain a visa to stay in Portugal during their study period. This visa must be obtained before the student arrives in Portugal. For additional information on the types of visas that are best suited to your situation as well as procedures for its attainment, please visit the Immigration Service website at: https://imigrante.sef.pt
To locate the nearest Portuguese Consulate / Embassy, we suggest you search the interactive map at the Portuguese Communities Portal at: https://www.portaldascomunidades.mne.pt/en/
Please note that if you are travelling from a country located outside the European Union, on a student visa, it is strongly recommended that whenever possible, buy an airline ticket that connects you directly to Portugal with no stopover at any European city. When traveling directly to Portugal, you avoid having to go to SEF later (usually this visit to SEF requires queuing for many hours or even going back the next day) to officially register your entrance in Portugal.
Health –All non-European students should obtain health insurance valid for Portugal.
Reception and integration - The University organizes annually a three day reception and orientation event that takes place before classes start. This year, the reception and orientation activities will take place on the 4th, 5th and 6th September. You will shortly receive a specific email with additional information on this matter.

COVID SAFE guarantee seal
Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Porto has received the COVID SAFE guarantee seal. The COVID SAFE guarantee seal, awarded by APCER (https://apcergroup.com/en/audit) ensures the University’s compliance with the guidelines set either by the national health - Directorate of Health (DGS) and labour authorities - Authority for Labour Conditions (ACT) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) - regarding safety and health procedures and practices in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Because the safety of our community is a top priority for Universidade Católica Portuguesa, proximity takes on a different meaning now. Our Schools are offering teaching models that combine face-to-face with online activities in order to guarantee the best conditions for learning while keeping safe. Additionally, we have prepared our Campus in Porto to safely welcome all students and staff.
Note: The campus auditing by APCER* also included teaching and research activities. *APCER is an independent entity using a strict methodology (systematic, independent and documented process that allows to objectively evaluate the performance of an organization against previously established criteria).
Orientation Week - Program
It is a great pleasure to welcome you in our institution. Despite the uncertain times we all are living because of COVID, we hope you may still have a great experience in Portugal and at Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Porto (UCP-Porto).
Because these are unprecedented times, we have introduced some changes in our usual procedures regarding Orientation Week.
Usually, Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Porto, organizes a three day reception and orientation events that take place before classes start. This year, we have decided to spread these events throughout the five days of the second week of September (7th till 11th of September), in order to comply with COVID safety rules currently in place in Portugal.
These safety rules limit the number of people gathering in one place. For this reason, we have divided the international students that will attend the orientation days, into several groups according on the health and safety regulations’ in place for each of the activities.
In the next pages, you will find detailed information about the Orientation Week Program as well as the groups for each of the activities.
Please check the groups for each activity since you will be included in different groups depending on the activity.
