  • Luís Miguel Cruz Soares is graduated in Microbiology and started his Master’s degree in Biotechnology and Innovation at ESB-UCP in 2021.

    Since 2021 he is working in the project HSoil4Food- Healthy soils for healthy foods (research fellow) focused on the adaptability and survival of pathogens present in the soil and exposed at different biofertilization conditions.

  • Hélder has a BSc in Applied Biology and a MSc in Plant Molecular Biology, Biotechnology and Bioentrepreneurship from the University of Minho, where he worked with both plant and yeast models. He completed his PhD in Health Sciences at the School of Medicine, University of Minho. His research focused on the yeast model to study ageing, protein homeostasis and extracellular vesicles.
    Hélder is part of the Strain Design and Fermentation Lab, Yeast Fingerprint platform, where the aim is to develop innovative solutions from yeast, and to characterize and optimize fermentation to design clean, efficient synthesis of many compounds.

  • Rita Vedor completed her BSc degree in Microbiology in 2020 by Escola Superior de Biotecnologia - Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Since April 2022 she is a researcher fellow at Centro de Biotecnologia e Química Fina - Universidade Católica Portuguesa, being hired by PROBIOCARE - Next generation probiotics as live biotherapeutics for oro-gastrointestinal infections. Simultaneously, she is finishing her Master in Science in Applied Microbiology, in which she is developing her master thesis entitled 'Incorporation of probiotics in chocolates'. Herewith, she has presented her work in several scientific conferences in form of poster or oral communication. Over the last year, Rita has participated in a few outreach activities promoted by ESBUCP/CBQF, including Semana Aberta da Escola Superior de Biotecnologia and Dia do Microrganismo. Her current research interests focus on the field of Microbiology and Food Science, more concretely, on probiotics and the development of novel functional foods.

  • Ana Catarina Araújo is a master’s in Food Engineering from the School of Biotechnology (ESB) of the Catholic University of Portugal.

    She worked for seven years in retail and the food industry sectors and is currently a Ph.D. student and Assistant Professor at the School of Biotechnology. Her research interests focus on Food Technology, Process Development and Optimization, Sustainability, and Artificial Intelligence.

  • Dr Pietro Iannetta is research leader in Agroecology, and based within the Dept. of Ecological Sciences at the James Hutton Institute.   • Marta Rosadas holds a bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering and a master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, both from Escola Superior de Biotecnologia from Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Porto. Currently, she is a researcher at the RESKIN project at CBQF, where her primary research focus is the decellularization of animal-origin tissues to create tissue engineering and regenerative medicine solutions. Her interests also extend to nanotechnology, which was the field she chose to develop her master’s thesis, entitled: “Nanotechnological approaches to treat skin cancer: from drug delivery nanoformulations to 3D models of skin cancer” during the period she spent at CNR NANOTEC – Institute of Nanotechnology in Lecce, Italy.

  • Francisco Rodrigues completed his Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering at the Faculdade de Engenharia - Universidade do Porto in 2022. Prior to this, he earned his Bachelor's degree in Bioengineering from Escola Superior de Biotecnologia – Universidade Católica Portuguesa in 2020. During his bachelor's degree, he enrolled in an ERASMUS+ program for one semester and received multiple merit awards throughout his academic path. During his master's degree, he worked on his dissertation at the i3S (Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde – Universidade do Porto) and ICBAS (Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar – Universidade do Porto), where he studied the mechanisms of action of antimicrobial peptides using membrane mimetic models. In addition, Francisco also has a great interest in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, one of the main reasons he joined the Biomaterials and Biomedical technology lab where he will pursue his PhD project.

  • Joana Fortuna earned her degree in Bioengineering from the Faculty of Biotechnology at the Portuguese Catholic University in 2021. Currently, she is in the final year of her master's in Biomedical Engineering in the same institution. Part of her master's program, Joana is engaged in a curricular internship at Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Santo António under the guidance of Nurse Coordinator Rosário Caetano Pereira and Professors Ana Leite Oliveira and Viviana Ribeiro. She is researching on the application of Hypothermic Oxygenated Perfusion (HOPE) to the liver, using the perfusion equipment VitaSmartTM from company Bridge to Life. During this period, Joana is collaboratingwith Dr Janina Eden at the University Hospital Zürich, Switzerland, to investigate organ viability post-HOPE.
